Many pharmacies in Canada have purchased time delay safes or narcotics safes to secure the drugs they sell to the public and to adhere to the rules established by the College of Pharmacy of Canada. Time delay safes have been shown to be beneficial to pharmacies, but they also cause problems such as the safe not opening, the door becoming blocked, the time delay mechanism failing, and so on. In this text, we will look at some of the dos and don'ts that you should follow if you encounter a similar problem.
What should you do if your safe door won't open?
Check codes:
Don't worry if your time delay safe door does not open. Simply retype the code, as people have a tendency to enter the wrong code in a rush. If you enter the code too many times, you risk putting your pharmacy safe into penalty lockout mode. If your keypad beeps repeatedly, wait 20 minutes and try again.
Dead Batteries:
Check for dead batteries before contacting a locksmith or narcotics safe provider. Using brand-named ones is critical because others lose power considerably faster, so you may encounter this issue more frequently than necessary.
Even if your keypad appears to be in working order, the practically dead batteries may be insufficient to retract the bolt.
When the battery is low, most battery-powered locks will sound a warning or emit beeps. Some locks even display an orange or red light to indicate that the battery needs to be replaced. Don't ignore them, and always carry a spare pair of batteries in your pharmacy so you can replace them right away.
Time Elapsed:
Before attempting to open the pharmacy safe, ensure that the complete time delay has gone. Your safe may have its own time delay. This signifies that it will have a time delay; thus, re-enter your pin after you've waited an appropriate amount of time.
Jammed Bolt:
Sometimes a bolt can become jammed at random. If you enter your key code and hear the bolt trying to retract but the door does not open, you may have a jam.
Your goal now is to kick the time delay safe door several times, but make careful to miss the keypad and handle. Hopefully, doing so will cause the bolt to loosen and unjam.
Once you've completed your kicks, you can relieve additional pressure by pulling the handle in the opposite direction and entering the code. Hopefully, the bolt will have time to move freely before popping back into place.
Deactivated Code:
Another reason your pharmacy safe may not open is if your code has been deactivated. If you suspect this is the case, test someone else's code to see if it works.
Wiring Issue:
Like any other electronic item, wires can become disconnected, damaged, or frayed. Remove your keypad and check to see if any wires are out of position or damaged.
If everything appears to be in order, unhook your keypad's cord and remove the batteries. Then wait 20 seconds before reinstalling the batteries and connecting the cabling.
If the issue is with damaged wiring, call your time delay safe provider (Narcsafe Team) and schedule an appointment with a specialist.
What should you not do if your safe door does not open?
1. Do not force the door to open:
Forcing the door open is the very worst thing you can do. This can cause damage to the locking system, making it more difficult to open the safe or vault later. If the door will not budge, stop attempting, look for alternative solutions, or consult the manual. If none of these solutions work, contact Narcsafe Team and we would be happy to guide you.
2. Do not hammer/Drill the door:
You should never, ever try to unlock your safe or vault with a hammer. This will very likely harm the locking mechanism, making it more difficult (if not impossible) to open. If you are having problems opening the door, contact a professional from Narcsafe.
Your pharmacy's security is critical, and a properly operating time delay safe is an essential component of that. Following these troubleshooting techniques will allow you to rapidly handle typical difficulties and keep your operations running smoothly. If you are still having troubles, do not hesitate to contact Narcsafe for assistance. Stay proactive and secure!
